I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke

Year: 1971
Composer: Billy Davis
Lyricist: Billy Davis (Bill Backer for the slogan)
Origin: America
Singer: The Hillside Singers (Original)

This must be the most catchy jingle that has stayed with me since childhood days!
Unlike my mum and a dear friend Jeanette, who swear by Coke as the ultimate thirst quencher, I am never a fan of any soda.  However this is my way of thanking the creative advertising team of The Coca Cola Company and its advertising agency McCann-Erickson for the memories.

I'd like to buy the world a home, and furnish it with love,

Grow apple trees and honey bees, and snow white turtle doves.
I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony,
I'd like to buy the world a Coke and keep it company.

Chorus:
I'd like to teach the world to sing

In perfect harmony

I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing.

(Repeat chorus)
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing

Chorus 2:
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

(Repeat chorus 2)
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

I'd like to teach the world to sing
Sing with me (background)
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing

(Repeat chorus)
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
And keep it company
That's the real thing.

(Chorus 2)
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing

(Repeat chorus 2)
What the world wants today
Coca-Cola (background)
Is the real thing
